egistered nurses (RNs) care for patients by providing
both treatment and education.  They work closely with
physicians and other health professionals as part of a health
care team.  RNs use a broad knowledge base to administer
treatments and make decisions about patient care.  They
interpret and respond to patient symptoms, reactions and
progress.  RNs also teach patients and families about proper
health care, assist in patient rehabilitation, and provide
emotional and physical support to promote recovery and
well-being.  Nurses often choose to work in specialized areas
such as pediatrics, nursing administration, or public health.
Registered nurses may supervise nursing aides, assistants, and
licensed practical nurses (LPNs).  The State of Georgia is
predicted to need approximately 20,000 additional nurses by the
year 2012.  The nursing profession is a challenging and highly
rewarding career that will continue to be in demand well into the
future.
