harmacy technicians work under the direct supervision of a
pharmacist.  They may perform many of the same duties as
pharmacists such as preparing and distributing medications, and
providing pharmaceutical care to patients.  Other duties include
compounding, preparing IVs and determining drug charges. 
Pharmacy technicians must be skilled in basic computer  operations
and ordering, stocking, packaging, and maintaining the inventory of

medications.

Academic Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent
is required.  Many pharmacy
technicians are trained on the job.  Most
training programs require 18 months to
two years of study and lead to a certificate,
diploma, or associate degree.
 
Licensure, Certification and
Registration
Georgia does not require licensure.
National certification may be obtained
through the Pharmacy Technician
Certification Board (PTCB).  Upon
passing the exam, the initials CPhT (Certified
Pharmacy Technician) may be used.
