assage therapy is a rapidly growing type of
complementary medicine. Massage therapists press, |
squeeze and rub muscles and the soft tissues of
the body to obtain a therapeutic effect. Massage |
therapists may use their hands, feet, massage
instruments, dry and steam heat, oil, music, and light |
during a massage. They cannot cure
serious medical conditions, but massage therapists can reduce
stress, relieve aches and pain, increase
flexibility of muscles and joints, and give clients a sense of |
well-being and relaxation. They may
choose to specialize in one of many modalities such as Swedish, |
trigger point/neuromuscular, deep tissue or
sports massage. Massage therapists might also choose to |
specialize their practice on a particular type
of client such as pregnant mothers, athletes or even animals. |
