ealth educators teach people and communities preventive health care
and behavior modification techniques.  They help determine the
health needs of communities and improve health practices through health
programming.  Depending on the area of concentration, health educators
design, implement and evaluate health programs on such topics as
infectious disease, drug abuse,  nutrition, safety human relations, stress
management and weight control.  They often choose to focus on specific
population groups or health issues.  They are also skilled in writing
educational materials, public information reports, and grant proposals.
 
Average Starting Salary (bachelor's level) $28,000, (master's level) $32,000

Academic Requirements
A college preparatory diploma is
recommended.  Bachelor's and
master's degrees are available; however,
the latter is usually preferred.
 
Licensure, Certification and
Registration
Licensure is not required in Georgia,
but many health educators become
Certified Health Education Specialists
(CHES).
