omplementary medicine is a phrase
used to describe treatments outside
the area of traditional medicine. These
treatments are not traditionally prescribed
by a physician, nurse practitioner, or
physician assistant. They include, but are
not limited to, acupuncture, magnet
therapy, dietary supplements, meditation,
and massage therapy.  The number of
Americans who use some form of
complementary medicine is growing.
Many areas of complementary
medicine are gaining support in the
traditional medical community.  Most
medical schools in the United States
offer courses in complementary
medicine.
