Unlike nurse anesthetists, anesthesiologist assistants
can not work independently or under the direction of any physician other than
an anesthesiologist. They are
trained to administer drugs, obtain vascular
access, apply and interpret
monitors, establish and maintain the patient's
airway, and assist with
preoperative assessment. Anesthesiologist
assistants are currently allowed
to practice in 17 states, but with the growing
demand for these professionals, many other states will likely
open their doors to these
professionals. |
